Currently the ports we have at Apapa, Tin Can Island, Warri, Sapele, Port Harcourt and Calabar are either over crowded or under utilized. A lot of government policies are to blame but we are here to put different proposals on the table, and maybe someone might borrow a leaf from it when developing strategic shipping infrastructure for Nigeria.
Firstly, based of the size and population of Nigeria it currently needs about 15 to 20 new shipping terminals located around country at specific strategic locations. Out of these 15 proposed terminals about 10 should be located on the River Niger and Benue respectively. They should be capable of handling the export, import and distribution of various types of goods and have adequate storage storage facilities and support within around the port.
They would be sited on the their importance to trade, production, manufacturing. Their proximity to large cities and finally there location near the two major rivers of the Niger and Benue.
