You understood that your vocal cord just needed to rest from all that screaming you had been doing.  Before the screaming you had used up all your designated words, "please, help, mercy, no money..." and all that was left to you was the screaming. You screamed for a long time but the humans said that they could not hear you.  Cats, chickens, dogs and even your neighbour's goat paused to watch you as you embarked on your journey to a place you did not know.

You stared at the road you trod on and said a prayer that the road would remember you by the way the sole of your left shoe was worn out at the heel. You thanked it for remembering how many steps you took from your house to the back of the green lorry that carried you to your destination. You thanked the ground for embracing you every time you fell down without warning.  You were losing everything on that journey, even your center of gravity. You thanked the tires for leaving a trail behind them.
