Have you ever shoe-horned yourself onto the 8.19am Denmark Hill to Blackfriars train? It's not pretty. If you haven't, and yet you live in this great megalopolis, then you've more than likely embedded your limbs into some other unwitting passenger's soft, memory-foam-like body, on one of the city's other overcrowded train or tube routes.

From Thoughts from Botswana by Lauri Kubuitsile Tue Jan 29 2013, 23:00:00

Not a week passes by that I don't get a phone call, an SMS or an email from someone who says- "I want to be a writer, how do I start?" or "I have a manuscript for a book can you tell me where to get it published?". It's inefficient for me to give such advice one by one so I thought I'd give it here to everyone at once. Keeping in mind I'm still on my own writing journey, this is what I know so far:

Rules for getting started

Ahead of its Pan African Film Festival closing night screening, comes news this evening (via Variety) that Shola Lynch's Free Angela & All Political Prisoners, has been picked up by Codeblack Films for an April theatrical release. An even more interesting part of this deal is that BET will be teaming up with CodeBlack to release the film in theaters, via CodeBlack's partnership with AMC. An April 5th debut date is scheduled, for AMC locations in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., Oakland, Philadelphia and Atlanta. Before then, PAFF attendees next month will have an opportunity to see the film, when it screens as...

When many of us reflect on the Holocaust, the horrific gas chambers and ovens of the death camps of Auschwitz and Treblinka immediately come to mind. Yet in parts of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, there is a lesser known aspect of the terrible genocide perpetrated against Jews, Roma, and other victims of the Nazis and their allies between 1941 and 1945. During this period, death squads of German soldiers and local collaborators carried out mass executions of millions of men, women and children, leaving remains in unmarked mass graves. This so-called "Holocaust by Bullets" is the subject of a documentary produced by Yahad-In Unum.

On January 28, the State Department marked International Holocaust Remembrance Day by inviting foreign diplomats,... more »
