I'm late on this; It looks like a project that's worth your attention and contributions, so without me taking up more time explaining it, since, as of this posting, the campaign has 34 hours left to reach its goal, I'll just let the filmmakers speak for themselves, via the email I received, as well as the Kickstarter campaign video that follows; The project's Kickstarter campaign goal is $30,000, and, as of this posting, has reached $25,944, with 34 hours left to go; so it needs to raise an additional $4,056 in about 1 1/2 days. Not a lot of time, but also not entirely impossible, especially if you all pass this around, and it spreads so that...

From Welcome to Asmarino Independent. Mon Dec 17 2012, 21:21:19

As readers will note, what is holding back Eritrea from realizing its richness is PIA's deliberate policy of impoverishment, designed to maintain tight grip on power, experiment with outdated political ideologies, and other unknown reasons.

The 2nd Eritrean Investment Conference, scheduled for December 17 & 18, 2012, is yet another drama designed to feed its dwindling supporters talking points at a time when every news coming out of the country is about a country hitting rock bottom by every measuring yard stick.  The floodgates of exodus have opened so wide that Eritreans at all levels and including those issued exit visa are buying one-way tickets.  Only the naïve would believe that investment would flood into Eritrea at a time when the Eritrean people are ...

Before you get all worked up about the idea, don't worry, it's not something that's actually going to happen; but rather something that almost DID happen, many moons ago, before Quentin Tarantino made Pulp Fiction. In an interview with MTV Movies while on the ongoing press circuit for Django Unchained (you've heard about it, I'm sure), posted earlier today, QT talke about his desire (or lack there of) to jump on the superhero movie bandwagon and direct one of his own; and during the conversation, he revealed the following: "After 'Reservoir Dogs,' I had considered doing a 'Luke Cage, Hero for Hire' movie. [Producer] Ed Pressman owned the...

Steve Harris is reuniting with his Awake producer Howard Gordon to co-star in TNT's drama pilot Legends, which is based on the novel by Robert Littell, and centers on an undercover CIA operative (played by Sean Bean) who is also a chameleon of sorts, who is able to suitably transform himself into a different person for each job. Harris will play a character named Yates, who's the director of the D.C.O. Task Force responsible for reinstating Martin. Anyone read the novel to shed some light on the character Harris will play, and his involvement in the story? Harris will next be seen in Regina King's feature film directorial debut - an adaptation...

In a year in which both the Coptic Pope and the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Alexandria have died, it may be useful to repeat a story I know I've told before. I once had a friend, a devout Palestinian Christian, who back in the day would encounter, in various American Christian communities in which he moved, well-meaning ladies and gentlemen who, on learning he was a Christian Arab, would naively ask, "which missionary group converted your people?" He would respond (knowing his sense of timing, I presume after waiting a couple of beats): "Perhaps you've heard of them: Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles."

Over the next week or so most US news organizations will have at least one clip from a city in the West Bank known as Bethlehem. They will show the Church of the Nativity, interview a few ...

The US is the most heavily armed nation in the world, possessing about 270 million guns. As CNN notes, "Yemen, a tribal nation with no history of strong central government or the rule of law, comes in a distant second." The US is also far and above the most violent developed country in the world. [...]
